The Vale Resort is THE place for sporting heroes ➤

From Gareth Bale to Gianluigi Buffon and Jamie Roberts to Joe Root, The Vale Resort is welcoming back-to-back international sporting legends this summer as an unprecedented number of world-famous athletes set up camp in Hensol, south Wales.

The four-star resort is used to hosting leading sports teams, thanks in large part to its world-class sports facilities and award-winning golf course, but the British and Irish Lions tour coinciding with the Champions League has contributed to an exceptionally exciting season for the 650-acre destination.

Since the Lions’ arrival in May, the hotel has been inundated with world-renowned athletes. The 143-room resort has welcomed four major sports sides this week alone, including the England and Pakistan cricket teams, and Wales’ national rugby and football sides.

“It’s shaping up to be a phenomenal summer for us,” said Paul Beddoe, sales and marketing director at the Vale Resort. “We are thrilled so many fantastic teams continue to choose us as their hosts when preparing for important sporting occasions, bolstering our position as a leading European destination for high-profile athletes.

PLUS The Vale Resort in south Wales has invested more than £400,000 in state-of-the-art golf course and greens equipment as the new golf season gets off with a swing.

The resort, home to two championship golf courses, has purchased 16 new high-tech John Deere cutters and mowers to enhance the condition of both the Wales National Golf Course and the Lake Golf Course. It is hoped the new equipment will give its 550-plus members and thousands of visitors, an even better golfing experience this year.

“This state-of-the-art machinery will undoubtedly improve the condition of both courses and make a difference to the way the game is played on them,” said John Borja, the resort’s head green-keeper. For more information about The Vale click here!

Lucky Lorraine at Cottrell Park ➤

Throughout the winter months starting in October 2016, Cottrell Park Golf Resort ran a members prize draw with a Cash Pot prize that increased by £50.00 each week.

The Prize Pot started at £500.00, rising £50 weekly and was drawn between 6-8pm each Thursday. In addition the club also hosted a quiz and offered food specials. The quiz was compiled and hosted by members of the club and both members and visitors were encouraged to participate.

The members prize draw increased to an amazing £1200.00 until the last draw on Thursday 2nd March where Lorraine Pointon-Bell’s name was drawn. All members were added to the draw since its launch in October whether they attended or not but those that did attend had their names added each week, therefore increasing their chances of winning. The concept was to encourage members to support the club through the dreary winter months when generally the clubhouse is quiet and food and beverage sales are down. Lorraine who is also a Past Captain of the Ladies section was delighted with her win and has used some of her winnings to pay her annual golf subscriptions. A Unique Conwy Connection ➤

“Without perhaps knowing it, golfers have seen more of the links of Conwy, which lies on the Morfa Peninsula than they may think, for the walls of many clubhouses carry old paintings of the old course without, for some reason, identifying the subject”

So wrote Donald Steel as his introduction to Conwy (Caernarvonshire) Golf Club in his 1992 book “Classic Golf Links of Great Britain and Ireland” He was, of course, referring to “The Drive”, The Difficult Bunker” and “Putting Green” painted by the Victorian Artist Douglas Adams (1853 – 1920) who visited the club on 3rd September, 1893.

The paintings, either individually or collectively, are displayed in golf clubhouses throughout the world. Many golf clubs have sought to create and capture a traditional golf club atmosphere, and have often achieved that by use of these historic prints adorning their walls. Two of the paintings are exhibited in the Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine in Florida - the one advertised by Gary Player on TV.

Conwy is the course depicted in the paintings, and they are neither the works of imagination nor those of a relatively unknown Scottish golf course as many believe. For more information about Conwy Golf Club click here!
