Chipping in! Our featured club website this month
is Channels Golf Club, Essex |

The Channels Complex, founded in 1974, is set in 300 acres of beautiful mature Essex parkland.
The "Channels" is a magnificent course, boasting some of the finest greens in the county, superbly managed and kept in peak condition. Being mainly on restored land, it is quite unique to Essex with its numerous lakes and undulating fairways.
There are places where the lower handicapper may wish to test his prowess and "go for the carry" over the lakes, or mere mortals can take the safe route down the fairway. Watch out for the 17th, it's a real card wrecker!!
"Belsteads" is our nine hole course which has two different tees for both men and Ladies, so you can in fact play it as a full 18 holes. Although it is not that long at 4779 yards it has three holes where water has to be negotiated and whilst it is an ideal course for golfers new to the game, it is still a good challenge for the more accomplished player. more info... |
Ufford goes pink! |
Ufford Park Hotel Golf & Spa near Woodbridge in Suffolk is a challenging 18 hole, par 71, course. In fact some lady golfers found it a little too tough ...well – Ufford Park has become officially "lady friendly’’ with new Pink Tees. They shorten the course by 1594yds so lady golfers and beginners can play and enjoy. "This whole idea evolved from trying to increase not just our lady membership numbers but also ladies pay & play. It was following on from this that doing something to support Breast Cancer Awareness came about." says Tarnia Robertson, Marketing Director of Ufford Park.
Lady members and Tuesday club members (over 50yrs) tested out the new tees while raising money for Breast Cancer Awareness. Each player donated £1 to charity by playing off the pink tees. "This whole idea is so exciting for me as Ufford Park’s new lady captain – if it encourages more ladies into the game that will be fantastic. Ufford Park has always been a proactive golf club and I am very proud to be their captain for the next 12 months,’’ Says Jane Banthorpe Lady Captain.

Ladies in the pink |
TUESDAY October 20 saw Middleton Golf Club awash with ladies in pink. The occasion was the annual fund-raising event in aid of Breast Cancer Research. It was organised by the Vice-Captain, Marie Long, who reminded members that everyone probably knows someone who has fought breast cancer.Although the golf was secondary to the fund-raising, the forty eight ladies who took part competed keenly and as the results show a high standard of play was achieved. The real winner however was Breast Cancer Research with £950 being raised for the Campaign.
The club wishes to thank in particular those local businesses listed who supported this event so generously. They were The Sandringham Estate, Westgate Stores, The Globe Hotel, Tim Clayton Jewellery Ltd, Newman and Coleman Hairdressers, Steve White (Middleton Golf Club Professional), Prodir, Lynn Arts Centre, Lynnsport, Tydd St. Giles Golf Club, Crown Inn Gayton, The Gate Middleton, Boots the Chemist, Tesco and Mike and Mandy Johnson (owners of Middleton Hall Golf Club).

New deal for Essex Golf |
The 3 organisations that form the Essex Golf Partnership are to receive £143,000 from the central funds from Sport England. This will be the major part of the county’s share of the £12.5 million awarded to the sport last year, reports Cliff Crook. The strings attached to the grant are that it be used to set up a coaching scheme for golfers which will be an add-on to the present coaching scheme run by the Essex Golf Union for junior boy golfers in the County. The Essex Golf scheme is credited with producing the successful stream of elite young golfers over the past few years.
The ‘Club and Coach’ scheme will cater for girl golfers and disabled golfers, and on the male side will extend the base of the catchment area for boys who receive County coaching. The grant will also cover the training of amateur coaches who will be required to assist the Golf Club Professionals to deliver coaching of the highest quality. |
