Dorset’s Georgia is champion
Dorset’s Georgia Hall (pictured) staged an action replay when she led from start to finish to win the English girls’ U15 championship at Market Rasen, Lincolnshire. A year ago, Georgia won the English U13 title in exactly the same style. The only difference was that the winning margin this year was bigger – seven, instead of two.

Throughout the tournament Georgia’s closest challenger was Cheshire’s Bronte Law, (Bramhall) who finished the championship as runner-up. Bronte completed the tournament on one-over par while Emma Harris (Peel Ladies) was four shots further back, helped by a final round score of one-under par.
Bob's £9000 for charity
Mendip Golf Club captain Bob Clark raised almost £9,000 from his Captain’s Day with the promise of more to come for Diabetes UK, his charity for the year. A variety of good causes have now benefitted by almost £120,000 from the time the day was inaugurated by former captain and chairman Tony Williams back in 1999.

The players from 44 teams representing 23 different clubs were on the course for almost 12 hours from 8.30am. The morning starters were the fortunate ones and the club’s vice captain Steve Rawlings from Gurney Slade was quick to acknowledge his good fortune as his Mendip team took first prize with 93 points, 21-under-par.

He was partnered by fellow Mendip members Chris Bennett, James Baughan, Tim Fowler. They finished three points clear of a team led by June Millington, Mendip’s former Somerset county player who has won a record number of club championships. She was assisted by a trio from Farrington Golf Club, her son David, the club’s champion and Somerset county first team player Tom Small and Clive Slocombe

Jason is champion at Stover
Jason Hampton successfully defended his club championship title at Stover In perfect golfing conditions the Devon star returned a level par 69 in the morning round. This was matched by 19 year old Tom Mitchell and closely followed by the in form duo of Alan Hewings and Dan Parkes with 71’s. The afternoon round saw Tom falter slightly to return a four over par 73 and Alan and Dan scored 74’s. Jason was moving towards the title at level par after 17 holes but then a mistake with his tee shot on 18 left him stymied behind a tree leaving him no choice but to play sideways and leave himself still over 300 yards to the green. He managed to reach the green with his fourth shot and two puts later he was relieved to sign for a 71 and a two shot victory. Tom Mitchell took second place with Alan Hewings third piping Dan Parkes on count back. Our picture shows Jason (right) with Neil Hayman Stover club captain.
St Mellion's New Course

Following a two-year £2 million investment the new Kernow Course at St Mellion International Resort is now complete. With nine brand-new holes, and with nine of the best from the original Old Course, this comprehensive redevelopment is set to boost visitor numbers to Cornwall. The Par 70, 18-hole Kernow is now a complement to the mighty Nicklaus Signature Course, which also winds around St Mellion’s spectacular wooded valleys.

Golf course architect Alan Leather was briefed to retain the best of the Old Course in creating a new course which keeps pace with advances in golf equipment technology. Work began in May 2008, with golf course constructors European Golf Services working closely throughout the process with St Mellion's Course Manager Mike Bush to ensure the new course opened in pristine condition.

In 1976 The Old Course, as it was then known, was designed by J. Hamilton Stutt for the Bond Brothers. St Mellion was soon heralded as the bright new star of golf in England’s South West. When its second course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, opened in 1987, the now-36 hole St Mellion facility became one of the UK’s most outstanding destinations for holidaying golfers, golf societies and corporate golf organisers – a reputation it maintains to this day. Madden was delighted to win and his daughter, Kayleigh, caddied for him as he recorded 9 birdies over the two rounds with only two double bogeys over the 36 holes which showed the consistency and high quality of his golf over both days. Second place was taken by Gloucestershire Senior’s Captain, Tony Gough, who shot a gross 148 to push 2008 club champion, and current county player, Paul Garland into third place by just one stroke. Gough also won the best net trophy with an excellent four under par 138, one shot ahead of both Paul Jones and Justin Ireland. Pictured are Ken with club captain Ken Rawcliffe.
